Tia--Yep, almonds are a good one to count on. I've eaten more than my share of Snickers (I prefer the Snickers with almonds) when traveling, too. Leisure travel I don't find so bad, because I'm more in charge of my own schedule, etc. Work travel I found to be much more difficult, but thankfully I don't do any of it now.

Thanks! Those lilies were the only ones the gophers didn't eat. I planted a lot. The gophers had full tummies.

So far, traveling in California isn't too bad, because we always have In-n-Out. You can get a burger protein style (lettuce instead of bun) and they only fry potatoes. Fresh, at that.

When I had to fly for my job, it wasn't pretty. I was always in a hurry, so I wouldn't pack food. Then, because I was still new-ish to the GF diet, I was paranoid and only ate snickers, because I knew they were safe. No wonder I gained so much there. Weight, I mean. Then, I would just grocery shop when I got there.

Now, I always have a bag of almonds with me, just in case.

xoxo,
Tia :P

Hi Barbara,

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you. I'm dealing with a sick household. But, to answer your question. I haven't been to many places in San Francisco, yet. But, here are a couple that I know have gluten-free menus.

Askew Grill. They were at our GIG meeting in June. Very tasty. The owners daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, so he developed a gluten-free menu. He is still looking for an inexpensive way to get GF soysauce so he can make his whole menu GF, but no luck yet. Their website is: http://www.asqewgrill.com/index.php. A few locations. Just ask for the GF menu when you go in. Lots of skewer choices, salads, and appetizers.

Also, there is Plant. http://www.theplantcafe.com/index.htm. Go to the Marina Cafe location. I went to the Pier 3 and it wasn't nearly as good. I think it is just understaffed. The GF options are clearly labeled and they are prepared. They know what you are asking for.

Pica Pica is supposed to be good. I haven't tried it, yet. I want to. http://picapicakitchen.com/.

Also, Crave Bakery. They are coming to our August GIG meeting. :) http://www.cravebakery.com/ I can't wait.

And, Mariposa Bakery, in Oakland, is supposed to be great. They also have a kiosk in the Ferry Building. http://www.mariposabaking.com/

I hope this helps. I will let you know if I hear of any more good ones. I'll try to ask around at our meeting, next week.

Have fun on your trip! I love San Fran!

Gorgeous lilies, Tia! Sometimes when I dilly dally another blogger friend comes in to save the day for me. I love that! ;-) I'm pretty laid back about traveling. I do make sure to have an apple and nuts for when I'm stuck in airports. Airports are usually the worst for me. One is limited on time, so it's a total crap shoot whether you'll be near a restaurant/food vendor that can accommodate or not. Mostly I focus on the gfe type foods and all is good. If I had to take most of my own food with me, I'd be a nut job.

I don't have a web site, per se. I am going to be in San Francisco in September visiting a friend. He is a great cook but I am wondering if you have any personal favorite places to eat especially at lunchtime if we are out and about then. I love SF and am really looking forward to September. We are celebrating our 40th anniversary. I was diagnosed with celiac disease a year and a half ago and it has been quite the ride, made easier by sites like yours.
