No more junk!
That is our new motto, here. We are doing our best to get the junk out of our lives. It seems to be in every form (we sold/got rid of so much stuff when we moved into this apartment.), but it is especially true in food.
You are what you eat. So, we are doing our best not to eat junk. We don’t want to be junk, you know. Now, we have the occasional treat, but even then, we are doing our best to eat healthier treats.
So, what the heck does this mean to you? That’s what you are wondering, isn’t it? Well, it means that my reviews/giveaways are going to be geared more toward things we would normally eat/use ourselves. Healthier foods. Good cookbooks. Less processed foods. If they are processed, it must have few ingredients and have them be pronounceable.
It was so ironic that as soon as I made this decision, I got a bunch of emails asking me to review processed, gluten-free foods. One of the emails I got was from Pacific Natural Foods. I did the proverbial eye-roll as I saw the email in my inbox, but I opened it up and gave it a read anyway. (Honestly, I was intrigued by the “Pacific.” Being from the Northwest, for some reason, I am always drawn to that word. Eh?!)
*Hmmmmm. Let me check out the website. Hmmmmmmm. Looks good. Lots of stuff I use anyway: broths, dairy-free milks, soups. And, lots of organic versions of them. I think maybe we have a winner here.*
So, I said that I would be happy to review their products and do a giveaway for my readers.
A few days later, I had 4 large, very, very heavy boxes on my doorstep. Holy Mother of…! It took me a half hour just to unpack them. They took up so much room that I had to put them on top of my kitchen shelves. Not on the top shelf, on top OF the shelves.
Anyway, the point is, I like the idea of Pacific Foods products. They have lots of stuff to cook with. And so far, what we have tried, we really like. We really like the Cashew Carrot Ginger Soup and Black Bean soup. And the Chocolate Hazelnut Milk? Let’s just say it is a good thing that they sent us the individual containers of that. I would have drunk an entire tetra pack if I could. Yummy!
And, they have lots of products that are gluten-free, dairy-free, kosher, etc. You can find out which ones are which on Pacific Natural Foods website.
So, here is the bonus for you. Pacific Natural Foods is giving away a bunch of products to you. They are going to send 5 readers a big ol’ box(es) of products to try. Do you want some? You know you do! You just need to leave a comment on this post as to what product you are most excited to try. Scroll to the bottom of the post for extra entries.
In the meantime, I am going to give you a recipe for a pasta sauce that I made using the chicken broth. Warning! This sauce is vegetable heavy but very, very good. Even Max went nuts for it. He preferred his over spaghetti, while The Big Man and I had ours over quinoa. Anyone seen that Whole Foods Parking Lot video?
