I am going to control everything my son eats for the rest of his life so he only eats healthy, nutritious food.

OK, now that I have picked myself up from the floor because I was laughing so hard I fell out of my chair, let’s continue.

I’m not that delusional. But, I do know that if you give your kids a good start by introducing them to vegetables, fruits and healthy food early on and limit junk to just occasional treats, you can build a great foundation that will stay with them for life.

I have numerous anecdotal stories of people I know that had bad foundations built when they were little, and it has been a major detriment to their health as they get older. But, I won’t go into that. I think we all know deep down that it’s true, and I don’t want to call anyone out.

But, I also have anecdotal evidence that it works the opposite way, too.

I think I have mentioned a few times that the Big Man was given a great foundation of healthy food when he was younger. He strayed from the path as a teenager (as we all do), but he found the light again when he got older. He doesn’t touch soda except the occasional root beer. And, when I say occasional, I mean once or twice a year. He loves his veggies, and really likes it when I cook healthy meals.

So, this has been our goal for Max.

I’m not dense. I know that he is going to go through a time where he wants nothing but junk. But, I am going to feed him as healthy as possible until then.

Gluten-Free cookies and cupcakes |
Gluten-Free cookies and cupcakes

This all leads to the Marvelous Foods Company. They sent a few samples of their snacks to me. (Yes, they were free.) Currently, they carry cookies and mini cupcakes. Both have a chocolate flavor, while the cookies have a ginger-ness to them. Each packet contains either two cookies or two cupcakes. They are small, so each packet is a snack size. And, each packet has two serving of fruits and vegetables in it. Really! If you look at the ingredients, you see avocados, carrots, bananas, spinach, kale, etc.

Plus, they are sweetened with honey, as well as some brown sugar. No high fructose corn syrup. And, all of the ingredients are pronounceable. Always good.

I really feel good giving these to Max. And, myself. 😉

And, most importantly, we both tried them and liked them. I was pretty impressed with the taste. I mean, I like vegetables, but these actually tasted like a treat.

  1. These sound really interesting! I guess my favorite is mushrooms, but it’s hard to say. That’s just what I’m craving right now (at 7:45 in the morning)!

  2. Definitely pumpkin! It’s so versatile… sweet or savoury dishes, firm or soft, from soup to dessert. And roasted is to die for!

  3. I also tried the muffins and they are very good. Very moist, and contain a hint of ginger. My non-gf boyfriend loved them. My stomach also felt a lot calmer after I ate them. Probably a good nauseous remedy!

Now that it’s cooler, the winter squashes are in. I truly enjoy them but I recently bought a Sam’s Club large container of baby spinach and am adding it to just about everything. I had some this morning with home grown red peppers and eggs. I gave up growing spinach because the chipmunk beats me to it. Other than that, life is good!

  12. Right now, it’s raw sweet red peppers!! Love those!

  13. Kristie

Sweet mini peppers are my favorite now. I eat ’em straight out of the package! 🙂

My favorite veggie is and has been broccoli, since I was little. Though with this pregnancy green beans (fresh only) has taken the number two spot from carrots.

I found this company recently and am thrilled! I’m allergic to corn and it’s very hard to find safe baked goods I don’t have to make myself. Since Marvelous Foods has a dedicated corn free facility, in addition to gluten free, I can’t wait to try their products!
